Google Business Profile Bulk Verification: A Guide for Chains
Google Business Profile bulk verification for chains with 10+ locations: who qualifies, how to prepare the spreadsheet, submit the request and avoid delays.

If you run ten or more branches under one brand, verifying each Google Business Profile one at a time is slow and easy to get wrong. Google Business Profile bulk verification lets an eligible chain ask Google to verify all of its locations through a single request in Business Profile Manager, instead of a separate video or code check for every store.
This guide explains who qualifies, how to prepare the bulk upload spreadsheet, the exact steps to submit the request, and the mistakes that most often hold it up. Everything procedural here is based on Google's own help pages, which are linked so you can check the current wording yourself.
What is Google Business Profile bulk verification?
Normally every Business Profile has to be verified on its own, for example by video or a code. Bulk verification (the option is labelled Chain in Business Profile Manager) is a separate route for businesses that manage many locations of the same brand. You upload all your locations in one account, fill in a request form, and Google reviews the account as a whole.
Once it succeeds, Google says updates you make to your locations can appear on Google Maps and other Google services, and new locations you add to the account can appear on Google too. For a pharmacy chain opening two stores a quarter in Pune, or a diagnostic lab adding collection centres across Hyderabad, that saves a lot of repeated work.
Bulk verification is not a ranking feature. It only confirms that you are allowed to manage those profiles. How each branch ranks still depends on the factors Google lists for local results: relevance, distance and prominence (Google's summary calls the last one popularity).
Who is eligible for bulk verification?
Google's bulk verification help page sets out clear conditions. Check every one before you apply.
| Condition | What Google says |
|---|---|
| Number of locations | 10 or more profiles for the same business. Duplicate, suspended or disabled profiles do not count towards the 10. |
| One business per account | Agencies that manage several different businesses in one account cannot bulk verify. |
| Physical, customer-facing locations | Only businesses with in-person contact with customers qualify. Service-area businesses without customer-facing locations are not eligible and should verify each location individually. |
| No existing verified account | A verified account must not already exist for the business. Organisations should share one business group rather than create parallel accounts. |
| Clean account | The account must have no errors. |
| Complete list | The upload must include every location you manage. Google asks you not to leave any out. |
Google also says your profiles must reflect your real business size, and you may be asked for evidence if your chain size differs from the number of profiles in your account. If you have fewer than 10 locations, verify them one by one.
Businesses that do not qualify
According to Google's page on common issues that delay bulk verification, these are not eligible:
- Rental, for-sale or vacant properties. A real estate developer should create a profile for the central office that handles sales, not for each flat or tower.
- Facilities you rent out or use only for temporary events, such as a banquet hall you book for a seasonal sale.
Before you apply: set up a business group
A business group is like a shared folder for your profiles. Google's page on creating and managing business groups recommends it as a safer way to share access than handing around one login.
- Sign in to Business Profile Manager on a computer.
- If you have two or more profiles, select Create group at the top right.
- Enter a name, such as your brand name, and select Create.
- Add colleagues or your agency as owners or managers. Both roles can create, edit and delete profiles in the group, and only an owner can delete the group.
- Move existing profiles in with Actions and then Transfer businesses.
Each group needs its own spreadsheet for imports. If your regional teams have each created their own accounts over the years, bring the profiles together first. Google says profiles already verified by someone else need an access request before you can manage them.
How to prepare the bulk upload spreadsheet
Google's bulk upload spreadsheet guide explains the template. In Business Profile Manager, select Add profile, then Import profiles, then Download the template. You can also download a filled-in sample and an attributes reference sheet.
The required fields and their limits:
- Store code: one unique code per location, 64 characters or fewer, no spaces at the start or end, and no special characters such as < or > or URLs. A code like
PUN-BANER-01works well because your team can read it. - Business name: up to 100 characters, not in all caps. Use your real-world name only. Do not add the area, a store code or a service. Adding the area, as in "Sai Medicals Baner", is a common habit, but Google's guidelines for representing your business do not allow location details in the name unless they are part of the real-world name on your signage.
- Address: follow the bulk upload address format for India.
- Primary phone or website: at least one is required. Websites must be full URLs starting with http:// or https://.
- Primary category: one category that describes what the business is, used consistently across similar branches.
Optional fields include up to 9 additional categories, up to 2 additional phone numbers, a description of up to 750 characters with no URLs, prices or promotions, labels, hours and photos.
Two warnings from Google's page are worth repeating. A blank cell under a column heading deletes the existing information for that field, so do not leave a column empty unless you mean it. Google's store codes page adds another: adding or changing a store code on an existing location through a bulk upload creates a duplicate location. Plan your codes before the first upload, and change codes on existing profiles in their Advanced settings instead.
How to request Google Business Profile bulk verification
Once the spreadsheet is uploaded and the errors are cleared, follow these steps from Google's help page:
- Sign in to Business Profile Manager on a computer.
- Select Verifications, then Chain, then Start.
- Fill out the form.
- Select Submit.
Uploading the spreadsheet alone does not send a verification request. You must complete the form. If you cannot see the Verifications tab, Google says you may not have enough eligible profiles, so count again and remove any duplicates or suspended listings from your total.
After you submit, Google reviews your account and contacts you if it needs more information. You get an email when bulk verification succeeds, and another if your status changes. Google does not publish a fixed timeframe, and its own page says the process can take a while, so do not promise a launch date to your branch teams based on it.
Common mistakes that delay bulk verification
A common cause of delay is data that looks fine in a spreadsheet but breaks Google's rules. Google's delay article lists these issues, and each is easy to check before you submit.
Names that do not match the signboard
Write the name exactly as customers see it, with real-world capitalisation. "SHREE SWEETS" in the sheet when the board says "Shree Sweets" is a problem, and so is "Shree Sweets, Best Kaju Katli in Andheri".
Call centre numbers and redirects
Google asks for a local phone number rather than a call centre number where possible, and direct phone numbers and URLs rather than redirects. If every branch currently shows the same 1800 helpline, add each branch's own number. If your website sends every store link through a tracking redirect, use the final store page URL instead.
Locations missing from your website
Google says locations should be listed on your official website and match what you submit. Before applying, make sure your store locator page lists every branch in the upload, with the same address. A brand that just opened in Gurgaon but has not updated its site yet should update the site first.
Two locations at one address
Google does not permit multiple locations at the same physical location within one upload. If a salon and its in-house academy share an address, check them against the department rules in Google's guidelines before you include both.
Email on a free domain
Google notes that an email address that does not use your official business domain needs extra verification steps and may take longer. Apply with an address on your company domain.
Formatting damage
Google's page warns about missing required fields, wrong country codes and phone formats. In our experience, spreadsheet tools often strip the leading +91 or turn long phone numbers into scientific notation, so check those columns after every save.
How to stay verified after approval
Bulk verification is not permanent. Google says it may de-verify accounts that do not actively manage their profiles, and may revoke bulk verification for accounts that abuse it or break its guidelines. A simple routine keeps you safe:
- Review the account for errors every week and clear them.
- Update hours before festivals and closures, branch by branch.
- Mark closed branches as closed rather than leaving them live.
- Add new branches through the same group so they follow the same naming and category rules.
- Watch for edits from the public or other users that change names, phone numbers or addresses.
For a chain of 40 outlets this is a lot to watch by hand. Tools for multi-location management and profile protection alerts help a central team spot a changed phone number or a branch with stale hours before it becomes a guideline problem.
Frequently asked questions
How many locations do I need for bulk verification?
Ten or more profiles for the same business. Duplicate, suspended and disabled profiles do not count towards that number.
Can an agency bulk verify all its clients together?
No. Google says agencies with more than one business in one account cannot bulk verify. Each business would need to apply from its own account.
How long does bulk verification take?
Google does not give a fixed time. It reviews the account, may ask for more information and emails you when the request succeeds or the status changes.
Does bulk verification improve rankings?
Google does not say it does. It confirms that you can manage the profiles, while ranking depends on relevance, distance and prominence for each branch.
Getting it right the first time
Bulk verification rewards preparation. Count your eligible locations, bring every profile into one business group, clean names, phone numbers and website links against Google's guidelines, make sure your website lists every branch, then submit the Chain request form. After approval, keep the account active and error-free so you do not lose the status.
